FINAL REMINDER: USArtists International
Deadline Appoaching! Friday, December 9, 2011 

USArtists International provides support for American dance, music, and theater ensembles and solo artists invited to perform at significant international festivals or engagements that represent extraordinary career opportunities anywhere in the world outside the United States and its territories. The application deadline for the second of three grant rounds of the 2012 program is Friday, December 9, 2011 for projects taking place between March 1, 2012 and February 28, 2013. This is a receipt deadline. For links to the online eGrant system, program guidelines and application click here. Emerging U.S. Artists Supported
Puffin Foundation Artist Grants
The Puffin Foundation seeks to open the doors of artistic expression by providing grants to art organizations and artists throughout the country who are often excluded from mainstream opportunities due to their gender or social philosophy. For the 2012 grant cycle, the Foundation will provide Artist Grants ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 to encourage emerging artists in the fields of theater, photography, and music. The Foundation is particularly interested in supporting innovative initiatives that will advance progressive social change. Prospective applicants must request funding guidelines and forms by sending a self-addressed stamped envelope to the Foundation’s office by December 1, 2011. Completed application packets will be accepted from November 1 through December 30, 2011. Visit the Foundation’s website to review the grant guidelines.

In this film, artist Tommy Hartung ventures out from his home and studio in Ridgewood, Queens to meet up with two friends--fellow artists Ronnie Bass and Georgia Sagri--in nearby Bushwick, Brooklyn.

Paul McCarthy: "Captain Ballsack"Exclusive Episode #143: Filmed in his Los Angeles studio, artist Paul McCarthy and production manager Amy Baumann describe the nearly decade-long, organic process behind the sculpture "Captain Ballsack" (2001-2009) and various editions cast from the original work.

WRITERS
Glimmer Train's SHORT STORY AWARD for NEW WRITERS
Deadline: November 30, 2011 extended to December 10.
Open only to writers whose fiction has not been presented in a print publication with a circulation over 5,000. (Entries, of course, must be unpublished.)
Most submissions to this category run 1,500 to 6,000 words, but can go up to 12,000 words.
Please, no more than 3 submissions per category.  Reading fee: $15 per story

Prizes:
·        1st place wins $1,200, publication in Glimmer Train Stories, and 20 copies of that issue.
·        2nd-place: $500
·        3rd-place:$300

VISUAL ARTS
Utah Public Art Program Opportunities

The Salt Lake Community College in partnership with the Utah Division of Facilities Construction and Management and the Utah Arts Council’s Public Art Program is requesting artist or artist team qualifications for the creation of site specific artwork(s) for the Salt Lake Community College Instructional and Administration Building on the Redwood Road campus in Taylorsville, Utah. The committee is open to the possibilities public art will bring to the project and interested in descriptive and/or conceptual art work that suggests or communicates the ideas, feelings, and themes outlined in the Request for Qualifications.
Budget: $192,500 - Deadline: January 13, 2012

ELIGIBILITY
Professional artists / artist teams are eligible to apply. Art selection committee members, Utah Arts Council Board and employees, and subcontractors or consultants of AJC Architects are not eligible for this project. By statute the Committee will give preference to Utah artists and artists from other jurisdictions that have reciprocal allowances for non-resident artists. (MT has reciprocal allowances for non-resident artists. – Beck)


FILM

Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation is seeking the best in new independent American film to tour through its On Screen/In Person program.  
Selected films will be screened in communities across the mid-Atlantic region accompanied by their respective filmmakers.

Filmmakers collaborate with host sites on the tour to develop community activities, such as  Q&As, artist talks, or workshops, among other options, to further engage audiences in the screened work. The Foundation will pay selected filmmakers a stipend for each host site visit, cover all travel and accommodation expenses, and provide a per diem.

For the 35th IWFF, Festival Week - May 5-12, and Preview Week, April 28-May4, the theme is Challenge, Choice & Promise – Wildlife Film and Conservation in the 21st Century * This year, look for new categories, plus we are honored to be able to present the Best Marine Conservation Message Award, sponsored by the Save Our Seas Foundation, for the film with the strongest message about saving our oceans and marine life!

DANCE

Tenure-Track Assistant Professor of Dance, West Chester University (West Chester, PA)

West Chester University’s Department of Theatre and Dance is seeking applicants for a tenure-track position in dance beginning in August 2012.  The successful candidate will have experience teaching a cross-cultural and/or interdisciplinary form of dance, in addition to one or more of the following technique forms: all levels of ballet, modern, tap or jazz. He/she will also have experience in at least two or more of the following related dance fields: somatic practice, dance appreciation, choreography, pedagogy, partnering, dance science or improvisation.

Responsibilities may include: choreographing for the University Dance Company, student mentoring, overseeing student concerts and recruitment. All faculty members are expected to pursue research and/or creative activity, advise students, and serve on departmental and university committees.

The Department of Dance seeks a Costume Supervisor responsible for designing, constructing, and/or pulling from the extensive costume collection and maintaining costumes for all events in the Department of Dance. The Costume Supervisor should be interested and able to supervise, mentor, and teach graduate and undergraduate students basic elements of costume design and construction. This position requires an ability to maintain the costume shop budget, coordinate with guest artists, work with the costume committee of Student Dance Organization, and collaborate with the Director of Dance Production and faculty Artistic Directors. Requirements include:

·        Minimum two years’ experience in professional or university dance costume design and construction
·        Ability to work collaboratively with faculty, students and guest artists;
·        Ability to work within a culturally diverse environment;
·        Well-developed written and oral communication skills.
